We are a group of game designers tasked with creating a physical prototype of an existing video game. Our group, The Splatty Tattys, decided to create a physical prototype of Splatoon 2's inking mechanic.

Splatoon 2 is a third-person shooter that makes use of a unique, inking mechanic in order to cover the map, obtain kills, and clear objectives in a multitude of different game modes. Players play in this unique world as inklings or octolings, anthropomorphic creatures that can change forms from humanoid looking to squid and octopus like respectively. Players are able to wield a variety of different weapons, subweapons, as well as specials in order to achieve their objectives, which then provides for countless ways to play. These concepts altogether provide a complicated framework, so for our physical prototype we decided to focus more so on the inking and covering up as much of a map as possible.
